Kingston merchants launch sewer campaign

Store owners along Kingston's main street have turned a massive downtown construction project — which usually deters customers — into an unusual marketing campaign. The city is replacing a number of underground systems in the busy downtown shopping district on Princess Street, including sewers made from limestone and brick that date back to the early 1900s.Instead of fretting over the dirt, the holes in the ground, and the yellow Caterpillar diggers parked in the area, local merchants launched the "Big Dig" campaign, which aims to draw visitors to see the historic sewers. Some stores are selling T-shirts with a "Big Dig" logo and visors printed with "Sewer-Visor" on them. Other shops are offering "Big Dig" discount cards, good for 10 per cent off during the construction job."It's putting a twist on it," said Guy Paquette, who owns a luggage store in the area. "To see something of that historical value makes an interesting spin on what is happening, and we need as many positive, interesting spins as possible."
Local shopper Dawn Redmond said she liked the clever campaign.
"Definitely, why not? It's a good idea," she said.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A complaint filed this week against the Daytona Beach Police Department says officers used excessive force during a 2008 arrest. It also says a controversial T-shirt sold by the department sends the wrong message to officers.
The shirt says S.E.T. Member on the front and shows a cartoon of Chief Mike Chitwood dunking a criminal head first into a toilet on the back. It also reads Scumbag Eradication Team and Not in Our Town.
Chitwood defends the shirt that uses one of his favorite words: scumbag. "It is a word I use and I got hired here, crime was a huge issue in the city of Daytona Beach. The shirts have been for sale for almost two years to raise money for the Explorers program."
But Attorney Sam Masters thinks the shirt sends the wrong message to police officers and sends the wrong image of Daytona Beach. Master says his client Glarry Williams was struck in the face and kicked in the ribs during an arrest. A mug shot of Williams following the arrest shows him with a swollen shut left eye.
Masters says, "I'm done debating the Chief of Police. He wants to deal with the issue in court. The excessive force complaint seeks up to $100,000 from the city. Chief Chitwood welcomes a possible lawsuit. My suggestion to legal was you offer him one dollar and when he refuses, lets go to trial."
The city now has six months to reply to the complaint before the case can move to court.

Top body painting from body painting festival

Does painting good for your body?

Do these things do more bad than good? Do we really need all these dang commercials all the time like... Are you sad? ...well now you can take this pill and it will make you happy...but just so you know the most common side effects were: anal leakage, nausea, nose bleeds, headaches, diarrhea, constipation, increased blood pressure, loss of appetite, insomnia, thoughts of suicide, anxiety, irritation, ringing in the ears, increased risk of heart attack...ten drummers drumming and a partridge in a pear tree. That's enough to make me depressed all over again.

I mean...are you serious? Is there something wrong with this picture to you?

Here's my take on the whole thing:

When most people experience pain, whether it be physical, mental, or emotional they think something is "wrong" and the pain needs to go away, one way or the other, whether it be drugged, numbed, or cut out. People don't want to face their pain. We are habitually taught as a society to run from it. The pain is there to tell you something. It is there to bring you into the present moment and get your attention, to try to get you to change what you are doing and to make better decisions.

If you break your leg, it hurts because your leg is telling you to stay off of it and let it heal. If you have extreme mental or emotional pain, it is there because either you have serious underlying issues that need to be addressed, or a chemical imbalance which is most likely due to environmental or dietary factors, or even both. Even if it was something you were born with, it is most likely there because your parents or ancestors somewhere down the line either did not take care of themselves or were exposed to a harmful environment, and the subsequent genetic markers that were amplified in their offspring are simply a consequence, telling you that you should take care of yourself better than previous generations, so that your genetic markers can be restored to normal eventually. It's "absolutely necessary" that I take these drugs is a victim mantality. It would be more honest to say "in my present condition, these drugs help me live a more normal life".

Many "sick" people ignore the fact that they might not need drugs, at least probably not forever in most cases, and that there are other ways to deal with pain. People in general are too afraid to deal with pain. They just want to make it go away, because thats what practically everyone in the modern civilized world has been taught to do.

Granted, if you cannot live a "normal" life and would rather it end, sure, take some drugs to help with that, but look into other things too, so eventually you can try to get off the drugs.
